FREE VOIP ON LINUX: talkdigits/twinkle softphone

First you need a talkdigits.com account, so go here http://talkdigits.com/ and sign up for an account. Your phone number will be important later and it will only show you it once during the account registration so WRITE YOUR PHONE NUMBER DOWN.

Next you will need Twinke, download it here: http://www.twinklephone.com/ Now install it and turn it on.

Next, you will run the wizard to set up your account from talkdigits.com in twinkle.
-- Filling out the wizard--
1. Profile Name: You can call this whatever you like. I suggest calling it the phone number that you are setting up because you can set up multiple ones and switch between whatever phone number you want to use.

2. SIP Service Provider: Set this to Other

3. Your Name: Put whatever you like, it doesn't matter.

4. User Name: Enter your talkdigits phone number.
Example: 7135550000

5. Domain: put talkdigits.net
note: if you signed up at freedigits.com use freedigits.net and so forth with the other services they provide.

6. Authentication Name: Enter your talkdigits phone number.
Example: 7135550000

7. Password: Enter the password for the talkdigits.com account.

8. SIP Proxy: talkdigits.net
note: if you signed up at freedigits.com use freedigits.net and so forth with the other services they provide.

9. STUN Server: Put in, stun.freedigits.net

--Outgoing calls now work, continue if you want incoming calls to work-

You have to adjust the Expiry time.

Edit > User Profile... > SIP Server
Set the Expiry to 300 and click ok!

Now your done! Incoming calls should now work. If not restart the program and that should update your Expiry time.

Well folks, I have a small business in the New Orleans area and I need a phone line. I do not want VOIP (like Vonage) or anything else that uses the internet. I need a real phone line. What companies provide phone service? Besides Bellsouth and Cox Communications, how can I get local phone service without VOIP? Any helpful suggestion will be greatly appreciated.
