GTA vs. Saint Row

A lot of speculation runs rampant about which of these games will be superior and establish itself as the dominant "free-roaming non-linear criminal experience". GTA3, Vice City, and San Andreas all showed continued polish and improvement, but with next gen came Saints Row and a whole new standard was set. With GTA4 finally slated to arrive in a week, and Saints Row 2 expected later this year, which of these gun-toting car-jacking cop-killing love fests will prove to be the real Kingpin of Crime?

....Kmax U CAN'T be serious...every1 here knows that GTA rules this Genre HANDS DOWN!!! It doesn't even compete, really Saints Row was just there to keep us company until the release of GTA IV. C'mon I know u got more sense than that

Having now put in thorough time with GTA4, as I'm sure everyone has, I see that obviously GTA4 is superior to Saints Row, and I never expected anything different, but I'm not arguing that GTA has been the dominant force all along. Saints Row was good, but ultimately it wasn't GTA, and our newest trip to Liberty City has proven that. The problem is with Saints Row 2 coming out later this year, will they have time to copy and even improve upon the GTA4 formula for success? I feel like GTA4 lacked some of the charm and humor of past GTA's, and I know they wanted to go for a more serious, darker, grittier theme, less jetpacks and go-karts, but I miss that stuff. GTA is still a superior title, but it lacks some of the simple fun of the past games in the series. What if Saint's Row 2 manages to give us more of that 'I never wanna take this game out of the disc slot' feeling?

I completely agree with that. There was just too many things lacking in GTA4 for me to feel like it was an acceptable continuation from San Andreas.
